Submit your manuscript
Submissions are open
What we want: We are seeking works that would be described as “Literary Fiction.” We are not a genre publisher. However, that does not mean we are not interested in work that crosses established boundaries. We want to publish books that move beyond simple narrative storytelling. We want manuscripts that cut to the core of what it means to be human - the pain, the torment, the joy, the fear, the regret, the sorrow. Make us laugh, make us cry, and make us stop in our tracks to say, “Damn, that was a hell of a sentence.” In short, we want GREAT work. On that note, we will be taking manuscripts for a few months, so if yours needs another pass to make it really shine, give it the attention it deserves.
If you’ve written such a book, but feel like you’ll never vault all the hurdles between you and a publishing deal, then please, submit!
Writers who work is selected for publication will be offered a contract that covers the cost of cover design, layout, ISBN registration and printing, as well as a an Independent Book Review. Picket Fire will also work to market your book and give you a set number of copies you can sign and sell to friends and family (and keep the money!)
Finally, we do charge a modest reading fee of $11 per submission. Why? Frankly, to keep our inbox from being flooded with random, unserious work. We are going to spend the many hours it takes reading your submission, and we only want to give that time to submissions from writers who feel their work is polished, ready to share, and that it fits our publishing criteria. This money is spent maintaining our web infrastructure and on publishing books!
Thank you for understanding. We look forward to reading your work!
