The open reading period is here! We are now accepting full novel manuscripts from interested writers who are seeking to have their novel published. Before submitting, PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING:

We are seeking works of what would currently be described as “Literary Fiction.” We are not a genre publisher. However, that does not mean we are not interested in work that crosses established boundaries. What is important to understand is that we want to publish work that moves beyond simple narrative storytelling. We want work that cuts to the core of what it means to be a human - the pain, the torment, the joy, the fear, the glory, the stupid-stupid-stupid mistakes, the regret, the sorrow, the absolute elation at what it means to exist in this weird body on this strange planet. Make us laugh, make us cry, and make us stop in our tracks to say, “Damn, that was a hell of a sentence.”

If you’ve written such a book, but feel like you’ll never vault all of the hurdles between you and a publishing deal, then please, submit!

Writers who work is selected for publication will be offered a contract that covers the cost of cover design, layout, ISBN registration and printing, as well as a Kirkus Review and an Independent Book Review. There will also be financial compensation offered on a tiered schedule based on how many books are sold. Picket Fire will also work to market your book.

Finally, we do charge a modest reading fee of $10 per submission. Why? Frankly, to keep our inbox from being flooded with random, unserious work. We are going to spend the many hours it takes reading your submission from beginning to end, which takes time, and we only want to give that time to submissions from writers who feel their work is polished, ready to share, and that it fits our publishing criteria. This money is spent maintaining our web infrastructure and on publishing books!
